To support an increase in housing supply in Tasmania, the Tasmanian Government’s $2.5 million grant program for ancillary dwellings opened on 30 June 2021. Through the grant program, the first 250 eligible new ancillary dwellings made available for long-term rent (two years or more), are eligible to apply for a $10 000 grant.
A brochure was developed to promote the opportunity to construct ancillary dwellings on residential properties within the existing planning framework. The brochure provides design guidance and sample plans for a range of housing contexts including properties with heritage values and topographical constraints. It also outlines the approvals pathway and land requirements. The brochure has been circulated to all Tasmanian councils.
More information on the grant program and an electronic copy of the brochure is available on the State Growth website.
